Into the Light speaks to the journey of leaving darker days behind and finding hope on the other side. This horse emerges from the shadows, its face touched by light—a quiet reminder that even after difficult seasons, there is always a way forward.

Peace, Billowing In

This painting began with a feeling on a summer morning while I was riding my horses. During the summer, I ride early, trying to beat the heat. As I rode, I found myself thinking about how different it will feel when the seasons begin to change.

The days will grow shorter. The mornings will become cooler. And eventually, the winter fog will begin rolling across the landscape.

I started imagining that season ahead—and this painting came from that feeling.

She had big, sweet eyes, and I have countless photos of her standing in this exact pose because the moment she heard or saw a person, she would turn and look back, hoping someone was coming to give her rump scratches. 😂

Inspired by the Great Egrets I’ve observed at Ming Lake and Hart Park, this painting captures those peaceful morning moments when the egrets settle into their favorite spots to soak up the first warmth of the sun. Surrounded by still water and the quiet beauty of the morning, the egrets seem to pause and simply enjoy the peace.
